Robert West Award for a Young Silicon Chemist
After the sad news of the passing of Prof. Robert C. West (1928-2022), one of the great pioneers of modern silicon chemistry, the International Advisory Board (IAB) of the International Symposium on Silicon Chemistry (ISOS) discussed several possibilities of recognizing his outstanding contributions. To honor West’s warm and steady encouragement of future generations of silicon chemists, it was decided to establish the “Robert West Award for a Young Silicon Chemist”.
The purpose of the Robert West Award for a Young Silicon Chemist is to encourage and recognize young silicon chemists, who have already made significant contributions to the chemistry of silicon and who are expected to lead future generations of silicon chemists.
At a ceremony during each ISOS, it shall be the responsibility of the IAB chair to assure a presentation of the Award to an outstanding silicon chemist whose Ph.D. degree certificate was issued no more than 15 years before January 1 of the award year. The Award shall consist of a certificate and a monetary award of US $ 1500. The awardee shall deliver the “Robert West Award Lecture” during the ISOS.
The awardee shall be selected by all members of the ISOS IAB in a secret ballot. Nominations can be made by any ISOS-IAB member. Nominations that reach the ISOS chair less than four months before the ISOS starting date will not be considered.
